Chemical peel aftercare: what is normal and what is not

Peeling is part of how a chemical peel works, which can feel alarming if nobody has told you what to expect.

Days one and two

Skin can look pink or slightly bronzed and feel tight. Use a gentle cleanser and a rich moisturizer, and avoid hot water.

Days three to seven

This is when flaking tends to show. Let it come away on its own. Picking or pulling can leave marks and slow healing.

What helps

Moisturize often, wear SPF every day, stay out of strong sun, and skip retinoids and exfoliating acids until peeling has finished.

What is not normal

Blistering, severe swelling, intense pain, or signs of infection should be reported to us straight away. Call us if you are unsure.

Planning ahead

Book a peel when you have a quiet week, not the week before a wedding or photo shoot. For an event, allow at least a week.
